2000 Daewoo Matiz drives well but every now and then loos all power for a split second then engine light comes on and stays on for a few mins

We have a very strange problem, Its almost like you drive over a pot hole and you loose grip and the car slows dematicly then resumes poer all in less than a second.
It seems to occure at random and for no reason, it has had a full service new Timing belt. The car runs great till this happens then the engine warning light stays on for about 1 minuet then goes off untill it happens again. The only thing i have oticed it the syncromesh of 1st gear to 2nd gear is not brill but i dont push the car so its never been a problem.
Any help or suguestion for what could be wrong would be great.

you say the eng man light stays on for a while then goes out this will record a code in the ecu go to any good garage they will read the recorded code and this will point you in the right direction to find the fault
