2004 Citroen Xsara loss of power, engine won't start

While driving to work last night my Citroen suffered a massive loss of power. I managed to coax it to work but it cut out.
Now the car will start but cuts out almost immediately and if it does run for more than a second it sounds very rough.
any ideas?

Coil pack is a common fault .
