2006 Citroen Xsara cruise control 'fault@

Car: Citroen Xsara
Year: 2006
Variant: Picasso 1.6 HDi Exclusive
Categories: Leaks & Noises
I have a recurring problem with my CC that appears to have everyone baffled. I have the CC on, and the radio, and all is fine except, sometimes and only at exactly the same place on the road I get a warning beep, the engine management light comes on and two messages on the display 'Cruise Control Fault' and 'Engine Fault'. The first time it happened it reset itself before I got to the garage but they checked, no error codes anywhere. The second time all error messages and warning lights on but, again, no error codes anywhere. They reset and it is OK up to now. (I didn't get charged for either check as no fault found). My theory on this is that at the exact point that the error occurs, it is on the brow of a hill and comes immediately into line of sight with a 290m high TV/Radio transmitter, blasting out up to 200kW of VHF and UHF signals, and that my car aerial is picking up a stray signal, putting it through the radio, dash display and feedback into anything else switched on, which happens to be the CC. With the multiplex system on board it could be a possibility. It has not been wet or raining when this has happened either. Has anyone heard of this? If so, is there an RF filter available to fit into the aerial lead? I have sent all the details directly to Citroen and they are having a look, and local main dealer is doing a check and software update as well.

Got a bit more information, from a different source. Asked our IT and electronics guys at work what they know about multiplexing and associated problems. Told them what my problem was and one of them, who drives a Ford Mondeo, told me he passes a transmitter on his way home (a different one), and on occasional as he passes it plays hell with his sat-nav. He is sure he is picking up stray signals as well.

Heard similar years back from one of my friends in the police w/shop and it was the police transmitter that was affecting some of their cars when in a particular area .

Had a similar problem trying to get my car to open it at an airport due to the radar I think.

Got a partial answer. The Citroen main dealer actually found the fault codes. Less than an hour after leaving the dealer Citroen phoned me and said they had got the details from the dealer and were working on it, and would be back in touch with me. I do have some information from the dealer, but I'll wait for the full story from Citroen and post the result.

Do you have, or have you seen an error code for this? I took mine to an independent Citroen garage and they could find nothing. Booked into main dealer for "Winter Check" for £29.99 as it included software check and update, if required. They found the error code and, as I had been on to Citroen directly, forwarded to them and they are looking into it. If you have an error code can check it against my problem to see if it's the same.
