2001 Citroen Xsara over heating warning

Car: Citroen Xsara
Year: 2001
Variant: 1.6
Categories: Electrics, ECU, Warnings & Lights
hi guys my citroean xsara picasso y reg has come up with a message telling me to stop as car is over heating!! (which it is not) no steam or bubbling, it goes from 2 bars on the temp gauge right up to red warning message comes on within seconds fan hits in temp drops straight back to normal.
have taken it to a garage and had 2 sensors replaced and also new thermostat sadly this has not cured the problem, I am now lost on what it could be and not sure what to do next. someone has mentioned it could be the ECU ??????
any help would be appreciated

Sounds like fan is cutting in a bit late .Depends on what sensors have been replaced .Whether you can possibly get an earlier opening one for fan or earlier opening thermostat IF no water loss or actual overheating .

would have suggested the thermostat, but as you have replaced it, points to the fan not activating. but hard to say without practical assesment
