Poor acceleration

2000 Citroen Xsara 1.6l
Car: Citroen Xsara
Year: 2000
Variant: 1.6l
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
I am worried about my car, maybe this is just something i need to get used to but wanted to check. I have recently bought a Xsara (30k on the clock).
when accelerating, say from 30 up, in 3rd gear the revs climb steeply (2-3k) but the car accelerates very slowly. Can anyone suggest what the problem may be ?

Thank you.

p.s. i'm used to driving a 1.6 16v Astra so didnt expect much difference in performance!

sounds like the clutch is slipping try accelorating in 3rd then put into 4th and put acc foot to floor if revs rise greatly you need a new clutchb
