2002 Citroen Xsara Picasso erratic idling/purging on tick over

my 52 plate picasso 2l hdi has an idling problem when warm,when i take it out of gear and let it idle it starts to purge ie the revs go up and down all on their own,it only seems to do it when the car has got warm,any help would be gratefully recieved,thanks,,,,

could be a fault with the idle control valve
