2000 Citroen Xsara Picasso car over revving

When ignition is switched on, the car starts but at a very high rev rate. This starts to increase slowly if the engine is left running. could this be sorted easily or does it need to be taken to citroen dealer?

Check , clean or replace idle control valve , throttle body / throttle position sensor
