Grinding when clutch peddle pressed causing strange to engine when not in gear

not a lot of info to work on but sounds like clutch thrust bearing not too well. you can check for clutch ware buy putting into second gear and leave the handbrake on(yes on) set off with plenty of revs if the car stalls the clutch plate is ok but its been known before that some penny pinchers just change the plate and not the bearing hope this helps cheers Andy
