2004 Citroen Xsara Picasso air vent switch not working on low setting

Air vent switch not working on low settings but works on max setting.Prior to this I had a ticking noise from behind the dash close to the air switch,what can the problem be ?

if the blower motor is only working on max setting then a knackered blower motor resistor is normally the cause

To add to " 2145simon " post , re. ballast resistor .

" This is a common problem on picassos and you'll find it on the drivers side at the top of the dash fitted into the heater intake to keep it cool. You can reach it without taking the dash out. There is a portion of the dash that can be removed under the steering wheel try getting to it from there. It's a fairly easy job to do. However sometimes you might find the harness connector is also melted and you may end up haveing to repair or replace the loom."
