2001 Citroen Xsara Picasso engine running rough, not coil, not plugs, think it is the electronic management system.

It has done this before numerous times and i switch engine off and it seems to reset itself and all is ok. I have just changed the clutch and maybe it is because the battery was unplugged for days, but when got all back together the problem was there . now i cannot seem to be able to clear problem by turning off or disconnecting battery.
Any ideas?

Check any earth cable from engine / gearbox is refitted / o.k

the earth cable is fixed ok, checked all connections for tightness, still no change.
