2006 Citroen Xsara Picasso eratic starter motor

Car: Citroen Xsara Picasso
Year: 2006
Variant: 1.6 petrol
Categories: Engine & Drivetrain
Had a new battery fitted in mid June. Old one not holding a charge. Rarely get issues with this car. Day after battery fitted starter motor went click after I had been for an 8 mile drive and was in petrol station. Waited 2 mins and it started fine. Solenoid just goes click.

Next day drove from South Lincs to Bishops Aukland not a fault to be seen. Drove next day into Pennines and as I got in High Falls car park and stopped. Thought I would try a restart but click. 5 clicks and nothing. Called breakdown. Went for walk. 30 mins later came back break down truck ready to fix but car started every time. So he drove off.

It is always when car has done a run and is hot never cold

Next day drove to Edinburgh Car perfect and was so, for the rest of week and on way back to South Lincs. Not a titter.

On return took car back to garage who fitted battery. He said He will clean all Earths.

Week later did a run of one hour. Got to wedding and stopped car for a WC. Got back in and click. Two goes later and car started.

Been ok since till today. Went on 45 min run and stalled car getting back in my drive Click is all it did. Waited 2 mins and car started.

Got up drive...turned car off and back on. Fine. Did it again and click. I now know if I leave it that it will work fine when cold. It is always after a run. Surely if this is SM issues it would have failed for good by now/ I use it daily

I'm going for a battery clamp fault,
for no other reason then this happened after a replacement battery.
If it were with me now I use my battery terminal tool,
Relatively cheap,
Around £10> on Ebay,
It's a combination wire brush/reamer that cleans the outside of the battery terminals to new bright metal and does the same to the inside of the clamps.
5 min job and no electrical resistance on the clamps means full V/A to the starter.
