2002 Citroen Xsara Picasso engine warning light on

When driving it feels like the brakes come on and power goes. Only happens intermittently and happens in all gears. Today engine warning light illuminated and has remained on. Any ideas ??

Unless you get it scanned and code read , only guessing .When was fuel filter last changed ? if a while since ,might be a good start off point .
