picasso turns over goes to start then just dies, you put foot on accelerator and there is nothing . You leave it try again and same thing. It will eventually start and takes anything from couple of mins to half hour . Took it to garage no diagnostics showing up any ideas. When I use the self primer when the car won't start it then starts straight away . Any solutions to this other than opening the bonnet.

Because it's so hit and miss would you think it was diesel pump as it would surely happen all the time . We are at our wits end with this car!!

You have a leak in the fuel supply somewhere,
air/vacuum doesn't work.
ANY leak in the system means a loss of vacuum pressure so fuel will not be drawn from the tank.
I don't mean fuel is leaking out
but air is being sucked in.

Sounds like fuel run back / air in system for whatever reason , possibly lines , fuel filter seals etc .But I'm no diesel expert .

^ posted at same time as 1/4 drive but seems to confirm my suggestion as he has better experience with diesels than I .

I think I may have posted about similar issues before and said the plastic fuel pipes to the pump need replacing as poor sealing.
