you may be able to disconnect it without it bringing on the management light

how do i disconnect the solenoid thanks for your reply
Posted Jul 4, 2014 (9 years ago)
Should be simple mate. If it works fine without it and it passes its not without the tester noticing its disconnected. Pull the wire
Should be simple wires on solenoid.

Don't really need it its just an emission thing. If it throws a light on just replug it for mot.

an engine management light on does not fail the mot
Posted Jul 4, 2014 (9 years ago)
Really? Its emission related.
I was always under the impression any lights on means a fail
Posted Jul 4, 2014 (9 years ago)
nope.unless it fails the emissions test an engine management light on could be all manner of things right down to battery voltage.

hi again i disconnected the wires to the solenoid no joy then i took the other two small rubber pipes of the solenoid and it goes like stink so to recap. solenoid is disconnected all the black rubber pipes are off it has put the e.m.l on but thats fine so will it be ok to drive like this the car has never run so good thanks for replies.

You sure you are disconnecting the egg?????

An egr has a steel pipe not rubber?

Is it the idle control you are disconnecting?

Shame you can't show a pic

i havent disconnected the e.g.r valve i have disconnected the solenoid that the e.g.r breather pipe connects to. the solenoid has the e.g.r breather going to it also two other black rubber pipes the car was running rubbish so i have disconnected all the black rubber pipes that were connected to the solenoid and it runs super now so my question is do you think it will be ok to keep driving the car with the e.g.r solenoid compleatly disconnected if i were to connect it all up again the car would go like a mobility scooter thanks for your reply

I'm not sure. As far as im aware the egr wouldn't have rubber pipes as its exhaust gas recirculation. So rubber would melt. If I'm not getting what your saying I apologise.

Most solenoids and gizmos are there purely for emissions. And I would say you should be fine to bypass it
Posted Jul 6, 2014 (9 years ago)
ok thanks for your reply the egr on these cars is right at the back of the engine i can reach it and there is a rubber pipe at the very top of the egr which if connected to the solenoid puts the car into limp mode so i will leave it as it is thanks again for your reply

the black rubber pipes are vacuum pipes that go to the solenoids which when electrically operated use the vacuum to control the egr valve and also turbo waste gate.By disconnecting the vacuum pipes the egr and waste gate will not function.Make sure you don't loose brake vacuum.Use a bit of brake pipe to connect the vacuum pipes together.Doing that to the turbo solenoid pipes gives you full boost all the time

the egr valve hasent worked for 4 yrs so the eml has been on for that amount of time i get the car m.o.t by the council every year i have been told this engine doesnt have a turbo i have been driving the car with the solenoid compleatly disconnected so far so good drives superb and. braking is fine if i do start having any issues with any thing i will let you know thanks for your help how can i find out if it has a turbo thanks again.
Posted Jul 7, 2014 (9 years ago)
I don't think it has a turbo. But It will be fitted in the exhaust close to the engine it will be pretty obvious if it has one its quite big
Posted Jul 7, 2014 (9 years ago)
if its a 2.0 Hdi 90 BHP as stated it will have a turbo. It sits right at the back of the engine down the back and is difficukt to see.
