i bought a new car so my citroen has been left sitting on the drive for a few months. i have someone interested in buying it so i decided to see if i could start it up....only to find my central locking wont work. worse than that, my key wont work in any door. i bought a new battery for the fob ( just in case ) but nothing. can anyone help ? ive seen various answers on here for central locking not working....but none for the key not working as well.

Sounds like the vehicle battery's gone flat, you need to gain access somehow to get to the battery

Have you tried lubricating a door lock with wd40 ,as it may just be stuck through lack of use,as nobody uses a key these days just the remote.

i used a penetrating oil on the locks but it didnt do anything...im assuming that does the same as wd40....and it seems that the battery is dead as the red light on the dash isnt flashing any more. i hadnt noticed that earlier....im thinking my only solution might be to break a window ?

is there any way to get the bonnet open from the outside ?.....if i could get under the bonnet i could try and charge the battery ?

Yes you are using the right oil,It is possible to gain access to the battery and open the bonnet, some minimal damage to the grill maybe required unless you have long arm,s and can reach it from below, hope this help,s you.

Can you not get access through the tailgate / boot ?
Answered Aug 4, 2013 (10 years ago)
no...no access through the boot...that only opens with the central locking. as far as going in through the grill, can you elaborate on what to do ?

another thing you can try but you must be carefull raise and support front of car if fitted remove lower engine cover using a light see if you can see the alternator at the back of it there will be a thick red wire remove retaining nut cover you should now see the nut get a good battery and using a jump lead connect to negative terminal on battery and clip other end to engine or on gear box make sure it has a good connection then using a piece of wire connect to your battery and hold other end on alternator lead nut now get assistant to try and unlock car door
