My electric rear view mirrors have just completely failed. They failed in the folded position, which I have managed to get back out, but there is no electrical adjustment to them. No folding and no adjustment. Checked the fuse (F10) which is OK. Any help and ideas appreciated.

" if there is nothing wrong with the mirror there are four spots on the electric mirror control, one at a 12 o'clock, one at a one o' clock position, one at a six o'clock position and one at an 11 o'clock position, turn the control so that the arrow faces 6 to fold the mirrors in and turn it back to any of the other positions to fold them back out. "

I've tried all that. There is no control whatsoever through the joystick. Nothing happens in any position.

On some models / year fuse " F27 10A BSI supply " was also linked to electric mirrors but dont know if it applies to your car or is a different listing .

I don't have a F27 fuse. My fuses are F1 - F22 in the box by the driver's knee and the box under the bonnet. None of them are shown as being for the BSI.

I don't know if anyone out there has come across this, but I've read that this has happened on the C5, and that to solve the problem, disconnect the battery, count to ten, reconnect the battery and they should work. Clock and radio etc have to be re-set. Any experience of this?

I have solved the problem. Checked the circuit diagram in a workshop manual and there are actually 9 fuses that can affect the electric mirrors. 3 in the BSI:- F10 (Heated rear screen - Demisting rear view mirror - 40A); F14 (COM2000 VAN network - 10A); F22 (Interior lamp - Cigar lighter - 12V socket - Glove box lighting - 20A). These fuses are in the fuse box by the drivers knee. Then in the PSF there are 6 fuses, but I don't know if they are also the ones by the drivers knee or under the bonnet, as I didn't have to go so far as to check them. They are F1; F4; F8; MF4; MF5 and MF7. I assume the "MF" fuses are the ones in the handbook they call MAXI and advise owners not to work on. Anyway, the fuse that had blown was the F22 - 20A for the Interior lamps etc. even though all the circuits on this fuse, according to the handbook, all still worked.

The fuse blew again and I tracked down the culprit. It was the cigarette lighter, even though I am a non smoker. It had been dropped or squashed to slightly out of round and when pressed in, the centre shorted out against the outer (earth) ring. Could just see small arc spot where it had happened. Lighter gone to the great ashtray in the sky and have fitted 12V power cap, like the one on the rear power outlet socket. Everything now working perfectly.
