Whirring noise

when I take foot of accelerator at any time I get a whirring noise from n/s front area.Bearing ok. Been told by friend (mechanic) that on spinning wheel noise appears to be coming from gearbox and if you place hand on it at same time you can feel vibration along with noise. Is it gearbox or could it be something related. happens also when free wheeling. Help grateful.

If it only does it when you lift off throttle it'll be the bearings in the gearbox
