2006 Citroen Xsara Picasso engine fault

hi was driving to work and lost full power and it just crawled and eventually cut out got to work and went too it later started ok but sounded as though it wasnt firing right it would rev up but after about 5 secs the engine fault would come up and it would eventually cut out and engine management light stays on could this be just a censor i dont know much about engines and dont want to get ripped off if anybody can help i would be grateful cheers

Need to have the car scanned for any faults...

HAD IT SCANNED MISFIRING ON ALL CYLINDERS RAC SAID I NEED NEW IGNITION COIL IS THIS THE CAUSE PLEASE NOT A CLUE WITH ENGINES
