2008 Citroen Xsara Picasso early cancelation of indicators

sometime indicators come on for three flashes then cancell left and right indicator.I have had a look at the indicator unit an that seems ok ,around the steering wheel i can see at the base of the steering wheel coller a set of lines with a white plastic fitment about third line up,would this be what cancells out the indicators.

assuming you are fully pressing the indicator stork for left or right and not just lightly touching it as it may have short term flash fitted.
