Problem with oil blowing out of breather hose and into air filter housing. Recently sailed through MOT emmision tests and compression test seem ok and no loss of power experienced.

Suspected blockeage or need to replace positive crankcase ventilation valve. Can anyone advise where this valve is fitted or has any other ideas with problem?

Thanks for any replies.

If the oil is not excessive i would not be too worried about it as possibly just back pressure but if it is excessive then possibly breather system requires cleaning out.

Thanks for your reply

Oil use is, unfortunately, excessive with occasional periods of smoke coming from exhaust.

I have checked the breather hose from the rear rocker cover to the carburettor/top of air filter and that is ok.

There is a second breather pipe from the left hand side of the carburettor leading to, for better words, a valve (located behind the washer bottle filler cap) with a electrical connection. The pipes leading to and from this valve are also clear but the valve appears to be in the closed position when the engine is off. I am unsure what the purpose of this valve is or if it is operating correctly.

I have checked the ‘haynes’ manual but can find no mention of this valve or the location of any positive crankcase pressure valve that may be installed.

Any further assistance appreaciated.
