When indicating right it cuts out after a few seconds. If the side lights or head lights are on then it works as normal.

It sounds like a bad earth check earth wires on mounting plate on inner wing near to battery and on multi plug on back of head light unit. Some light clusters collect a small amount of water this can be seen on inside of light unit / cause is a leak in seal of glass to reflector unit or if the lights have not been used much they tend to steam up.

Is it a big job and will it cost much to sort out?

An hours labor would cover it i think at most garages.
