2007 Citroen Xsara Picasso lost compression from cylinder 4

Car: Citroen Xsara Picasso
Year: 2007
Variant: 1.8 Exclusive
Categories: Engine & Drivetrain
Year of car 2007, mileage 44k. Car serviced at Citreon main dealer. Car drinks oil from day 1. Two main dealers unable to find issue. Thats a little bit of history.

Car lost Cylinder 4 on M6 motorway and towed to local dealer. Dealer completed compression test and confirmed Cylinder 4 has no compression.

They recommend taking the head off (cost £400) for them to confirm the issue. They have given me a list of potential issues ranging from.

Replacing pistons.
Replacing bent values and guides (best case scenerio)
Replace head (worst case cost £3,700).

I am not a mechanic, but this should not happen to a 5 year old car that has been serviced and under utilised.

Has anyone got some advice I can use when talking to dealer.

I am also planning to give Citreon customer services a call as I belive the car was faulty from day 1 and the dealer network failed to spot it. Do you think I have a case.

Any feedback welcome.

Regards,

Andrew

Dont know why you should have those problems at that mileage . Normally if you have bent valves/ damaged guides it's caused by the timing belt snapping or jumping due to teeth missing on belt due to wear . If the pistons were worn , that could cause oil burning but should not happen at that mileage .If needed , rather than pay £3700 for a new head , I'd stick on a recon head or a s/hand one at a fraction of cost.Crazy to spend that amount .If the oil problem was reported and logged at dealership when car was new it will help your case .
