2001 Citroen Xsara Picasso petrol computer gauge

After I had filled up with petrol, the warning sign on the dash board was stating the warning " petrol low", & the amount hadn't changed on the petrol gauge, showing how many boxes.I then put more petrol in & again it didn't registar.

Sounds like faulty tank / sender unit .
