Engine Whining

2000 Citroen Xantia Diesel Estate Exclusive
Car: Citroen Xantia
Year: 2000
Variant: Diesel Estate Exclusive
Categories: Leaks & Noises
The engine has a whining noise coming from cambelt side of engine, I think it is coming from the auxillary belt drive and have changed the alternator, this has slightly improved the symptom but the whine is still there. Could it be the automatic belt tensioner and if so how difficult is it to remove and replace. Do you have any other suggestions.

I have had the same noise and i found it by removing the drive belt and turning the pulleys in turn. The noise i had was coming from the aux pulley just underneath the main lhm pump.
