2000 Citroen Xantia fuel gauge intermitently faulty

fuel gauge working fine , when i next switch ignition on gauge reads empty with fuel warning light on. i have fitted a new sender unit but have been told it may be linked to the ignition switch . any help would be appreciated.

When your keys in the ignition and car started is there any slight play in the ignition switch.If not it,s probably a connection problem.
