2000 Citroen Saxo power steering

My Citroen Saxo power steering has stopped working and the battery light is showing on the dashboard. Could a low battery affect the power steering or is it just a coincidence?

Citreon Saxo has electric hydraulic power steering , so it would be affected by battery / alternator fault .

i have no lights coming on and ive fitted another pump which worked for a couple of days then went on me again and it keeps cutting out and then in again which is a bit of a nightmare when i go round corners etc any solutions please
