2003 Citroen Saxo fuel gauge stopped working, goes on empty. bounces from full.to empty 3 times then.goes back.to empty. help!!

Hi i bought a saxo yesterday, fuel gauge was working.fine but i filled it up last night and it went onto empty light. Bounces from.full.to empty then went back to empty. Someone help!

Possible tank sender issue or earthing issue seem,s to be common on these cars.
