Economy mode

2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi Exclusive
Car: Citroen C5

Variant: 2.0 HDi Exclusive
Categories: Leaks & Noises
The car has an economy mode designed to preserve the battery and comes into effect after a period of time when the engine is turned off. The manual states it will come into operation at some time within an hour of the engine being turned off. My last C5 used to come in after 1/2 hour, however with this car which I bought in Sept, it comes in after just 4 minutes of turning the engine off. This means that after 4 minutes I cannot listen to the radio, cd player or operate the windows. Each time I get into the car it is in economy mode and therefore the same problem of no windows or radio. If I am parked and want to use any of these electrics, I have to run the engine ! I have discussed this with the dealer who tells me its to protect the battery, but I am using the engine and fuel just to listen to the radio or wind the windows down if someone wants to talk to me from outside of the car. Is this a fault ? and if not, can it be disabled as it is a useless bit of equipment.

As your dealer says it is to prevent battery from running too low. Have you had the battery checked to make sure it is a good battery. It mite just need a charge or a good run without an consumers switched on.

I have today been to the Citroen dealer who confirms that this is a common complaint. As I said, saving the battery is all well and good, but running the engine and using fuel just to listen to the radio is silly. It would be cheaper to renew the battery occasionally. I have owned many cars since 1969 and have never had a problem with the battery through listening to the radio for an hour or so !
The dealer accepts it's over the top and is going to disable the economy mode for me. It wiil not effect the warranty in any way. Really can't see the point of it ! The car has many gadgets but this one is not needed.

I have an 09 plate C5 HDi 140 + Nav Tourer. After 30 mins driving the radio switches off and then back on again. Its just like its going into economy mode. Dealer has loaded latest software version but this fix lasts for a few days then the fault returns. It happens about 95% of the time. If it is going into economy mode, can it be disabled? I know it shouldn't go into eco mode when driving so could be another fault??
