My local citreon garage have diagnosed that my car is suffering a damaged head gaskett. They have informed me that it is probably several thousands to fix with no guarentee that it will be successful. the car has done 63000 and has been fault free since new. It overheated several times over the past 6 months.
Should i ditch it or get an independent to fix it?

If it was me , I would get a second opinion to verify fault first . Then , as you suggest , get an estimate from another source i.e reputable independant or engine reconditioner .Just be careful and do your homework beforehand as there are some right cowboys about in that field .
