2006 Citroen C5 VTR estate
Car: Citroen C5
Year: 2006
Variant: VTR estate
Categories: Leaks & Noises
My gearbox serial number is 20 GK01 0035663
Citroën state the gearbox is an AM6B automatic, on line I cannot locate such a box with this info. Help?

I dont know what's wrong with your box , but can be very expensive as you can see here http://www.automatic-gearbox.co.uk/gearboxes/86/citroen-gearboxes.html?gclid=CMKCm9vptb4CFc6WtAodeXcA6A.That is just an example of costs .Might be worthwhile getting a quote for overhaul or recon box from local Auto trans specianlist .

To Mr whittinghame the web site I was directed to does not feature my vehicle or box and two persons have told me to stay away from this company. I did not enquire why.

If you gave Citroen the vin number and they stated that it was a AM6B box that was fitted on that car it should be correct unless changed at some time .Have you had the car since new ? Here is another car for example with that box ,

Is it not a AM6B type box with serial no . as you list which is normal ? In other words the serial number is not the type / model number ?

I was only using that web site purely as example of how expensive it could be and in no way reccommend them or even know them as it was the first one I could find .It was purely as a guide and to support the theory that it may be cheaper and better to get your own box overhauled / recon by an accredited auto trans specialist .You dont state the trouble your having with the box .There are many cowboy companies out there and need to do your homework and checking before commiting yourself .

Is your gearbox faulty? Is that why you are needing the serial number

Please listen carefully I shall say this only once, their is nothing wrong, I just need to know my box identity is an 'A' or a 'B' depending on this correct answer is the future decision on what lubricant I use when required, the correct oils are critical.

Your box is a AM6B as confirmed by Citroen.

I can also see you are a member of the French car forum and have asked the same question, wasnt the information you were given satisfactory? I'm sure the boys on a specialist forum would know exactly what you need.

Unfortunately I was being tongue in cheek 'follower of Allo Allo'
I have been in touch with ZF who made the transmission, so far no help.
This morning I visited a young Citroën specialist I recently discovered in Balsall Common and knowledge gained. I have a 6 speed auto. Box. Designated as an AL6

Yep that's the one I thought it was from the wiki page I visited, if its similar as my 406 I had I also looked into changing the oil and it was oil for life, no change nessasary,

a 406 would have had the AL4 not 6 407 would have had an AL6
