2004 Citroen C5 aircon fan stuck on high

Aircon comes on automatically with fan on high, left side is hot and right side outside temp. switches and temp control knobs don't do anything, only the directional flow control works. Wife's in an absolute mess as the car has just had gearbox reconditioned (possible cause??)
