2003 Citroen C5 warning lights on engine in limp mode

Car: Citroen C5
Year: 2003
Variant: 2.0 hpi 16 valve petrol estate
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
the stop lights have come along with service light and engine management light. Have driven the car home but will not rev above 2000rpm.
it has had a new fuel pump fitted but is now showing pollution system error, abs error, tyre puncher error & anything else it can add to it.It is almost like the ecu has gone belly up.

when driving if you go over a bump in road all error lights come on engine will shut down like power failure sometimes it will spit back like timing is out. I have looked over the engine bay can not see any-thing that is loose looked at fuse boxes all seems to be good. battery leads are good & clean. the dam thing is driving me mad as i can not find anything wrong with it.

I have given it a good look over had fuses out as well to make sure none was gone or have bad connections. Fuse box look in very good shape all main power leads look to be good tested with meter for voltage drop change from battery voltage but they was the same. Battery seems to be good as in car volt meter is reading good but i have changed the battery off my other Car (new battery) no change in error. I have also looked at fuse box in side car for same faults but nothing found. All main battery leads look good and i have removed earth cleaned under it and put it back on again when i changed battery over. Starter is working good turns engine over quickly And it sound like it has good power source to it. I am looking at getting a code reader to see if that will shed any light on the fault, it might point me in a new area to look for the fault.

I have spoken to main dealer to day they say one of the main faults population filter error is normal for this car as it has only done 73499, from last mot it had done 2000 miles. They recommend resetting error code and give it a good rpm to get cat hot to clear it of carbon. But i think this will not work with the other faults it has.

Is the car running hot ?

I had this issue on my xantia when air con had been on. It was solved by cleaning the radiator fins out that had come blocked up with road dirt and leaves that had got in there. This is not maybe the cure for yours but it could be a good place to start from. If air con/water radiator can not cool fan will stay on longer after key is removed from car until it is cool enough for fan switch to trip out.

Other thing is to test switch or replace it as it could be faulty.

After spending much money on parts to try and solve the issue i am now at a dead end.
parts replaced are:
fuel pressure sensor
both fuel pumps (tank & hp pump)
IAT sensor replaced
Temp sensor on water housing
Ecu cleared of code faults 16 times.

I now have a new fault code:
p1288 cylinder head temp sensor out of test range.

No one seems to know what this fault is or how to solve the issue.
Fuel rail pressure is also down to 5 bar and should be in the range of 68 bar.

If any one can point me to the fault and help resolve this issue it would be a great help.

Ok i have solved the issue of engine management light on along with service light. This issue was putting car in to limp mode & also showing anti pollution fault on dash board if you revved it over 2000 rpm.

The issue was not a failure with sensors but turned out to be the HIGH PRESSURE PUMP on end of the cam shaft.

On removal of the HP pump it all looked to be good, as i turned the drive on pump i saw that the center screw/bolt was loose. With a little pull the drive came out of pump reveling the issue that the pump has seized and stripped the drive screw that holds it together. On replacing this HP pump the issues i had have now gone and the car drives normal again with no faults showing on dash and antipollution fault has also gone.

There is a warning on removal of this HP pump do it when engine is cold and also great care is to be taken as some bits could fall into cam shaft housing as you pull pump out.

I hope this helps to solve some issues for other C5 HPI drivers that have spent loads of cash when they did not need to.
