2002 Citroen Berlingo starting engine

Yesterday morning my van wouldn't start at all. smoke coming from exhaust.I had to prime the engine and then it started with LOTS of smoke from exhaust,same thing happened again today. What is the problem?

may be air leak on fuel lines or filter housing allowing the fuel to run back to the tank when stood. you hand prime fills the lines again and away we go. check glow plugs also as poor starting could be down to a faulty plug/circuit
