2003 Citroen Berlingo air box noise

The engine sounds like a throaty exhaust noise but does not come from the exhaust.
I suspect some sort of air induction roar.
Trapping down the filter lid improves it but does not eliminate the problem
What happens if I seal the several slots in the first intake pipe before the filter box ?
Any ideas what else it might be ?

The filter box lid should be a sealed fit ,not needing " trapping " Likewise the intake hose should have no leaks or cracks .Is there a filter in the box or has it been removed ?

The air intake to the filter box is a plastic tube bolted to the front cross member wth two nuts.
The plastic hooks on one side of the box were worn and when thickened slightly reduced the roar. The seal of lid to the box now seems 100% but the noise persists. The filter is new and in place.

What about the exhaust manifold and or gasket

Sorry for the late reply but I needed to get to a car pit.
I have double checked both manifolds and the exhaust pipe. No leaks.
When under the car I found that the sump sounded like a deep drum when the car was at 2300revs. Removal of the oil filler cap let out some air noise and pressure but not all the sound was eliminated. Now I need to check the sump pressure is able to release into the air intake via the rocker cover. I will let you know when I have located the source and nailed the problem . The car has only done 50,000 miles

Check the engine crankcase breather / hose is not blocked or kinked
