2007 Citroen Berlingo 5th gear problem

Goes through gears fine but when in 5th the gear stick seems to be loose and it’s hard to get back into lower gears .. the gear stick becomes floppy like it’s in neutral.. the linkage seems ok but the gear rod has a little play in it.
