My Citroen berlingo won't go past 2000 revs

Hi I've had my berlingo van for about 9 months and every now and again when I start it and rev it won't go past 2000 revs, but when I turn it off and back on again it's fine also sometimes when I turn it off the engine still runs for about 3seconds plz help

its gone into limp home mode but not put fault light on.get ecu codes read to locate problem

On my 1.9 D when the engine lost power and when coming to a stop the engine rattled like mad, then you stalled when trying to start off , it was the advance solenoid, part cost about £75, 10 years ago, easy to fit [just like a spark plug]
