2005 Chrysler Grand Voyager central locking working intermitently

Car: Chrysler Grand Voyager
Year: 2005
Variant: 2.8 CRD LX
Categories: Electrics, ECU, Warnings & Lights
The central locking on my Chrysler Grand Voyager has recently stated giving me problems. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. To get it to work again, albeit only for a day or so, I have to disconnect the battery for about 10 minutes. I have had it to a local garage (not a Chrysler dealer) for diagnostics with no joy. I'm arranging for it to go to a main dealer but would like an idea of what is wrong and the potential cost to fix it. I'm near to the end of my tether! If no joy with the main dealer it is going! Help!

try replacing the remote battery,if you still have problems then the remote could be on its way out,

I've replaced the batteries in both remotes. The auto central locking which locks the car once over a certain speed also does not work sometimes. The only way I seem to be able to reset the problem is disconnecting the battery for a while, a pain when out shopping or the wife is driving it.

A long shot , but checked fuse ?

Where is the fuse for central locking on a 2004 Chrysler voyager?

In the fuse box under the bonnet. For some reason it's labelled 'Fuel Heater'!

whittingehame,

The fuse you mentioned was blown, so I replaced it. Unfortunately the problem still exists. I have it booked into a Chrysler dealer on Monday, going to cost me £88 just for a diagnostics! Dick Turpin used to wear a mask!

Don't know if you want to give this a try before you pay through the nose at the dealers for the scan .Worth a try ?

Inside your car turn off the ignition and press and hold the central locking switch in the car itself (don't let go yet). You should hear the doors double lock. Then the light on the dashboard should stop flashing and stay on fully. Whilst STILL (!) pressing the central locking switch press the key fob/blip. Then you can let go of the central locking switch.

Best of luck .

I've had the car in a Chrysler Dealership for diagnostics, they said it was the door latch. So I let them repair it, and got home, and the problem is still there! It's going back in on Tuesday and they can keep it till they've fixed it. Totally fed up now. Main dealers, my arse!

I have been told by the dealers that the problem is the Body Control Module, anyone know anything about these?

Hello Kazsi,

I have been following your story for some weeks now as I also have got the same fault and have had this for over 8 months.

We took it to the main dealers and got fobbed off with the door latch, replaced, fault still there.
Then the dealership told us it was some wiring loom, that got replaced but fault came back 4 days later. Apparently disconnect the battery and the fault clears for a short period.
So back to dealership and re-diagnose to be informed it was the fuel heater..... well 2 weeks to wait for part, they replaced that and yes for a whole 2 weeks it worked.
But back to dealership with same fault, to be told its now the Main control module. This was an expensive part and also took a couple of weeks to get one in from Brussels or somewhere in Europe. So the replaced that and the central locking was fixed, or so they told us.
3 weeks later, you guessed it, the fault is still there, this has cost over $2,000 to sort out so far and the car is only worth £5,000 at the most.
But worse still the central locking is still not working.
My main dealer is Portsmouth and we are loosing faith rapidly with them.

So is your problem fixed and what work needed to be done to resolve the problem.

Thanks

I have exactly the same problem. The alarm is activated and deactivated OK with the remotes but the doors don't unlock. Disconnecting the car battery for 10 minutes "fixes" the problem for a day or so. If someone has found a fix for this, please let me know.

i have same issue on my voyager.
i have been told too replace the digital self setting relay that controls the central locking that is why the battery solution works for a while the relay is set but then goes of again unfortunatly i have not been able to find the relay and i can`t afford to take it to the main dealer.so if you ask the question next time your at the garage they might be able to help you either way.

Certainly disconnecting the battery (BOTH TERMINALS) will reset the central locking.
But try this!
With the battery disconnected, clamp the two leads together and leave for about 30 minutes, this will discharge any static in the system.
Quite often it is an intermitent fault with a door switch and only diognostics will show this. Also the system can be reset with the computor but the battery disconnection will be the cheaper fix.

I had a similar problem last year on the sliding door. I took the door apart, not as difficult as it sounds, and extracted the actuator. I found that applying 12v to it made it twitch but not actuate. I further dismantled the actuator to extract the electric motor. Applying 12v only made it rotate relatively slowly without enough energy to actuate the locking mechanism. However, keeping 12v applied the motor gradually increased speed, although this was accompanied by a bit of smoke! I kept dabbing 12v on and off building up speed and stopping when there was too muuh smoke and heat. After about 5 mins the motor literally jumped off the table. Full power had been restored. My conclusion was there had been a build up of grime on the motors bushes, hence the smoke. Actuator and door reassembled and every thing works fine.
