Could only find reference to 995cc engine but got this from Daewoo site ,

Post: #2RE: Matiz 995cc engine is it def an interference engine.

hello,

based on my personal previous experience with an incident of a snapped timing belt, I assure you that the Matiz engine (whether 800cc or larger 995cc engines) is an interface type.

if the timing belt snaps off, it will damage the valves and cause other very bad damages.

in my case the belt snapped, the piston hit the valve, the valve pent and touched the spark plug, which caused an electrical short and damaged the ignition coil and the ECM.

had to replace the valves, skim the head once and replaced it eventually, due to repetitive failure.

costs a bundle to repair, as you can imagine, so better safe than sorry...
