1997 BMW 5 Series suddenley overheating

today driving about temp gauge went into red and then alot presure coming from exspantoin tank both rad hoses soft and cold dont think headgaskit gone anybody else had same problem please help all new to me many thank

Could check thermostat is not jammed shut and eliminate that first . Lots of other possible causes , like water pump , head gasket etc . etc. Might find hoses soft and cold because no water in them .
