1997 BMW 5 Series car overheating

Car: BMW 5 Series
Year: 1997
Variant: 528i SE (e39)
Categories: Engine & Drivetrain
I have a bmw 528i se (e39)it has been fine since I got it a year ago but a couple of days ago it overheated after I'd been driving it for about 10 minutes. I took it to a mechanic and he couldn't find the problem with it so he decided to bleed it which seemed to fix it for a little while but then it started again. I went to a specialist who told me to take it in tomorrow and that it was probably the thermostat however looking online at people who have had a similar problem they have paid to have the thermostat changed and it hasnt fixed the problem. Other suggestions are that it could either be the fan or the head gasket but without any definate answers about what it is I really don't want to start spending so much cash on trying things that might not even fix it. What should I do if even the mechanics are lost about the problem?

NOT THAT HARD TO MEND. FIRST, ASK THEM TO TEST THE HEAD GASKET WITH LEAK DETECTOR (ITS AND TEST FLUID THAT CHANGES COLOUR IF CARBON MONOXIDE IS IN THE COOLING SYSTEM). SECOND, BLEED SYSTEM AGAIN AND CHECK FOR WATER LOSS. THIRD, WARM ENGINE UP AND PUT HEATER TO HOT,IF HEATER IS COLD AND ENGINE HOT THEN THERE IS A HIGH CHANCE THAT THE WATER PUMP IMPELLER HAS FALLEN OFF AND IS NOT CIRCULATING THE WATER AROUND CAUSING THE ENGINE TO OVER HEAT.WE FIT LOTS TO CUSTOMERS CARS WITH THAT FAULT. HOPE THIS HELPS
