Steering problem

2004 BMW 3 Series 1.8 se.ti hatchback compact
Car: BMW 3 Series
Year: 2004
Variant: 1.8 se.ti hatchback compact
Categories: Steering, Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres
When I am on an uneven road/dips the steering seems to be all over the place, I have been told by a number of mechanics that it could be the wheels with them being 225.40.18 and a number of mechanics have said that it could be the track control arm bushes, I have had the car on a ramp, and had something adjusted, tram line I think they a called??? not sure. This did not rectify the problem, any suggestions to correct this?

Might have been wheel alignment they adjusted ? If so that wouldn't solve your problem .Could check the steering column intermediate shaft coupling , which if worn will give excessive play / movement and lack of response from steering .Also as suggested , check the track control arms bushes .This shows you the steering column coupling .

H, if it's the track control arms bushes, I have been told that you can't buy the bushes separate from the track control arms, is this correct? If not where do you suggest I get the bushes from?
I have been quoted nearly £400 for both sides complete, I thought this a bit excessive

You will have to identify the correct part , year , model etc. for your car but should be able to get a lot cheaper than that .This is a sample from E-bay but local motor factor might be able to supply .( cut and paste )
