Total electrical power failure

2005 BMW 3 Series 320d M Sport
Car: BMW 3 Series
Year: 2005
Variant: 320d M Sport
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
I have a 2005 320d touring M Sport. This is the new version with the push button start.

Upon getting into the car, I place the key in the ignition and place foot on the clutch and when I press the start button all electrical power goes - nothing works at all.

This has happened 3 or 4 times and each time the car has re-set itself after a couple of hours. The problem doesn't appear to be the battery as all of the systems are as before but the clock is a out by the time the cat was dead for. Can anyone help?

First thing I would do is get battery tested .At same time check alternator output . Simple tests , usually carried out foc .If not that check all starter connections and earth from engine / gearbox to body .
