Heater blower wont turn off

1998 BMW 3 Series se

i have just bought a 1998 bmw 318i se and the heater will not turn off. i have removed the vent to check the switch and the fan seems to be operated by a cable. this is attached to the control switch/wheel type dial, i presume the cable may not be attached at the other end, the problem is i have no idea where to look for the other end of the cable. can anyone shed some light on this please.

Usually the cables work the flaps rather than motor , but could be wrong .Might be a fault with resistor packs .

Check this out, should help you .

Hi,

If you adjust the fan speed with a button and not a manual knob then the most likely cause is a fan speed resistor. Common sign is if air still blows very slightly from the vents once the key has been removed.
