2004 BMW 3 Series 330DSE Auto
Car: BMW 3 Series
Year: 2004
Variant: 330DSE Auto
Categories: Steering, Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres
Descending hill, closed throttle. If foot brake is used in a "check speed" manner ie. Very lightly, transmission "changes down"

This does not happen when lifting off the throttle as when approaching lights etc.

Appears to be affected by the engine being on the "overrun" for any length of time

When I enter the terrifying and expensive portals of my BMW dealer How will they respond when I ask them to @flash@ the transmission ECU.
I am sure you know how to answer them but what do I say?

Better still any BMW electronics whizz kids who know exactly what I mean.

Many thanks. Mike the Bike

I don't think that there's a fault with the gearbox, the box will register the fact that you are on the overrun for a certain amount of time and therefore descending a hill. it will then change down to use engine braking to hold the car back so you don't over use the brakes (similar to how you would use engine braking in a manual box down a long hill).
