airbag warning light staying on permanently was like this when i bought car .looks as if new steering wheel has been fitted at one stage.is there anything i can do to get light off

you will need to get the fault codes read and any faults rectified .if it has a new steering wheel then it might only need the codes erasing but crash data is more difficult to remove than normal fault codes

I have a Fiat Stilo which is a model with a very common fault where the Airbag Warning Light comes on with instructions to stop the engine! The problem is caused by a poorly designed weight sensor in the passenger seat. This is the O.C.S. system (Occupant Classification System).

My solution, rather than buy a very expensive Fiat OCS Mat for the seat was to go on e-bay and buy what is called an OCS emulator for 57euroes.
They are available for BMW's too.
This little box is then connected to the OCS plug under the seat and tells the computer the seat is occupied.
