Many possible causes .Could check plugs , coil packs (if not leads ) first .

clean throttle body check engine breather pipe and breather valve on inlet manifold also check inlet trunking from air filter to throttle boby for splits you dont say what engine is in your car

,BMW 318 2004 FACELIFT,ALSO HAVING A HARD START TO CRANCK MAYBE 3 TIMES ON THE IGNITION KEY

has it got 16 valve m44 engine if so when was oil last changed also check cam sensor /lambda sensor
