Loosing water

2000 BMW 3 Series 1.6 e46
Car: BMW 3 Series
Year: 2000
Variant: 1.6 e46
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
On a recent trip to Gatwick from Northampton on stopping at Gatwick the car dumped its coolant out through the expansion tank I refilled and drove home the car did not overheat. Ever since when starting in the morning the engine comes upto temp very quickly the water pump is working could this be a thermostat prob or head gasket. There is no water in the oil or loss of coolant from any where I can see. Any ideas

I had a 3 series previous to my current car. Exactly the same happened and the garage said it was the head gasket. Check for milky residue around the top of the oil tank to see if its the head gasket. The mechanic said this was the easiest way to tell. I used to run some fluid through it to seal head gaskets you can buy from Halfords as the car was never the same after the garage had "fixed it"!
