2000 BMW 3 Series loosing power when warm

Car: BMW 3 Series
Year: 2000
Variant: 318 tds manaul e36
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
the car dosent over heat when idling, however when driving it overheats and dosent have any power behind it and the revs die down.
ive had rac have a look at it and they done a compression test to see if its the head gasket and apparently its not but he thinks it might be coz loss of power is normally only caused by head gasket. help!!

Many causes for overheating . Could be partially blocked rad , water pump etc . A block test will tell for certain if head gasket gone .

could be down to a faulty coolant temp sensor or a faulty fan switch which isnt brining on the cooling fan
