2014 Audi TT broken timing belt after just being replaced

Car: Audi TT
Year: 2014
Variant: 2.0 TDI
Categories: Engine & Drivetrain
I had my timing belt replaced in Nov 2020. Two days ago (24th March 2021) when driving the car the engine started sounding rough and after driving a little further down the road the engine cut out and wouldn't start (electrics ok but not even a turn over).
I called the RAC who plugged in the diagnostics and said it was more than likely the timing belt.
Due to the time he towed me to a garage that was not the garage that changed the belt.
They are not looking at the car to see what the cause is.
If it is the timing belt e.g. it was faulty and has snapped, how do I stand?
I will contact the garage for money back on faulty belt but who pays for additional repair work that may have been caused?
I can't get it to original garage without sorting out a tow, but even so I'll still have to pay the new garage for their investigative work even if they do not do the repair. Am I allowed to get the new garage to repair and then try to claim the work from someone (original garage or manufacturer of belt)?

Sorry....sentence in original post should have said 'They are now looking at the car to see what the cause is.'

Usually the belts shear teeth and jump the timing more often as opposed to snapping . There can be other factors causing this to occur , like failure of water pump , tensioner etc .I have never known of or had a car in the workshop where a new timing belt fitted was faulty , usually some other reason for failure .If it was an Audi dealership that replaced the belt , they would want to examine the car themselves to determine cause and any subsequent claim . You can get another garage to repair but by doing so I would reckon your chances of recouping the cost as zilch .
