i have a 1996/97 audi does anyone know if there is an oil cooler on the bottom of the oil filter or if there is one on the bottom of the radiator. the reason why i have asked this is because my water has gone whippy but my oil hasnt the car starts and runns like a dream so i was wondering if the was a gasket gone near oil cooler or whether the oil cooler being on the bottom of the radiator if a vein has gone allowing the oil to weep into the water system i have been told that a head gasket on an audi is as rare as rocking horse poo on the moon

hi there, i'm not sure if there is an oil cooler on the oil filter. if there is then, remove the filter, you expose the cooler.this should have 2 hoses attached. also you can see the thread where you spin-on the filter. that threaded part i believe is the bolt for the oil cooler. THESE HAVE been known to work loose and leak water and indeed oil. have the cooler removed, clean-up all the mating faces, and re-fit bolt with a locking compound ( locktite ) and tighten to specified torque. then replace filter and try again. if there isn't one, check thet there are only the 2 big water hoses on the radiator, upper and lower. if there are 2 other smaller pipes aswell then this would indicate that an oil cooler is present in the bottom of the rad. if so this would suggest that this car is auto? is the transmission dodgy?
hope this helps!!!
